The Fine Arts Sector launches the "Journey of the Enlightened Dada" exhibition on the first anniversary of the passing of artist Esmat Dawastashy.
Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Gihan Zaki, Minister of Culture, the Fine Arts Sector, headed by Dr. Mahmoud Hamed, will launch the retrospective exhibition "Journey of the Enlightened Dada" for the late artist Esmat Dawastashy (1943-2025). The exhibition will open at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the Ajyal 1-2 Halls at the Mahmoud Said Museum in Alexandria.
The exhibition commemorates the first anniversary of the passing of artist Esmat Dawastashy. The exhibition is scheduled to run until June 12, 2026.
In his remarks about the upcoming exhibition, the Head of the Fine Arts Sector said: "During the first retrospective exhibition of the artist Esmat Dawastashy, coinciding with the first anniversary of his passing, we are experiencing the visual and emotional journey of an exceptional artist who championed experimentation and artistic rebellion throughout his creative career spanning over 60 years."
He added: "In 'The Journey of the Enlightened Dada,' the viewer will not merely see drawings or paintings, but will delve into the mind of an artist who believed that art is an act of freedom and continuous discovery."
Dr. Mahmoud Hamed emphasized that Dawastashy was not just a painter, but a chronicler of beauty and a creator of contemporary myths. His brilliance is evident in his works, which provoke questioning, stimulate thought, and encourage contemplation, as is the nature of a true artist.
He continued: "With this exhibition, we renew our connection with this son of Alexandria, a city that greatly contributed to his diverse creativity, to celebrate an experience that lived for beauty."
