A cultural symposium celebrating the great poet Yasser Qatamish and the great poet Dr. Samir Al-Qadi

* The Writers' Union Celebrates Satirical Literature... Qatamish and Al-Qadi Ignite the Atmosphere with Humorous Poetry.

* Emad Gomaa: Satirical Literature and Caricature are Two Sides of the Same Coin in Confronting Societal Issues.

Artist and satirical writer Emad Gomaa emphasized the importance of the close relationship between satirical literature and caricature, noting that both represent a soft power capable of critiquing reality and exposing social and political contradictions in a simple style that reaches the public quickly and profoundly.

This came during his participation in the cultural symposium organized by the Egyptian Writers' Union, headed by Dr. Alaa Abdel-Hadi, yesterday, Wednesday, in celebration of the renowned poet Yasser Qatamish and the esteemed poet Dr. Samir Al-Qadi. The symposium was held by the Poetry Committee, chaired by the renowned poet Atef El-Gendy, who skillfully moderated the event. Also in attendance were the poet Essam Badr, Vice President of the Committee, along with a select group of writers, poets, intellectuals, and those interested in satirical literature.

The evening was filled with a joyful atmosphere, characterized by humor and satire. The audience enjoyed a wide array of satirical poems, both in classical Arabic and colloquial dialect, recited by the renowned poets Yasser Qatamish and Dr. Samir Al-Qadi. Qatamish presented several of his successful and distinguished satirical works, while Al-Qadi offered poetic examples that blended wit with social commentary and a humanistic perspective, eliciting enthusiastic audience participation.

During his intervention at the symposium, Emad Jumaa discussed his experience documenting the arts of satire and caricature through his writings, most notably his book "Fantastic Delusions" in satirical literature, which brings the character of Juha into the 21st century to address contemporary social issues, and his book "Stars of Caricature and Their Pioneers." He emphasized that satirical literature and caricature represent an important cultural and artistic memory, reflecting the transformations and diverse issues of Arab society.

Emad Jumaa pointed out that caricature was and still is the visual partner of satirical literature, as cartoonists and satirical writers were able to express people’s concerns and dreams using laughter and humor as a tool for enlightenment and change through caricature characters created by the satirical writer Ahmed Ragab and drawn by the great artist Mustafa Hussein, including Kamboura, Aziz Bey Al-Alit, Falah Kafr Al-Hanadwa, Al-Kahiti, and others, as well as the characters of Rafia Hanem, Ibn Al-Balad, Bint Al-Balad, and Sakran Pasha Tina by the great artist Rakha, which are characters that dealt with many societal issues, as satirical literature and caricature are two sides of the same coin.
