"The Language of Art Knows No Borders": World Creators Portray Mohamed Sobhy's Career Through Caricature

In an artistic celebration held at the Mahmoud Mokhtar Cultural Center in the Mokhtar Museum on Thursday evening, Dr. Mahmoud Hamed, Head of the Fine Arts Sector, along with the renowned artist Mohamed Sobhy and artist Mustafa El-Sheikh, Head of the Egyptian Caricature Society, inaugurated the international caricature exhibition entitled "The Knight of Arab Art." The exhibition honors the career of the great artist Mohamed Sobhy and was attended by a host of public figures, diplomats, artists Fawzy Morsy, Emad Gomaa, and Sherif Gad, and a select group of creators and caricaturists from around the world.

The exhibition serves as a visual document of Sobhy's career, featuring 135 caricature portraits created by 116 artists from 28 countries. These works were selected from among 230 submissions by 174 artists from 38 countries, representing broad international participation that reflects the exceptional status of Mohamed Sobhy as one of the most prominent symbols of Egypt's soft power. Artist Mohamed Sobhi expressed his immense joy at seeing his artistic journey in cinema, theater, and drama brought to life by artists from diverse cultures, commending them for the love and appreciation he felt in their works. Sobhi also thanked the Ministry of Culture, the Fine Arts Sector, and the organizing bodies, emphasizing his pride in being the featured artist at this international event, which documents a part of Egypt's creative history.

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Hamed, Head of the Fine Arts Sector, affirmed that hosting this exhibition stems from a belief in the role of art in documenting the nation's creative memory. Hamed pointed out that Mohamed Sobhi transcends being merely an artistic figure, becoming a "comprehensive cultural project" that has managed to touch the pulse of the Egyptian street through insightful critical perspectives. He explained that the exhibition highlights the creative intersection between "caricature art," with its capacity for conciseness and intelligent satire, and Sobhi's prolific career.

The exhibition is organized as a result of collaboration between the Egyptian Caricature Society, the Fine Arts Sector of the Ministry of Culture, the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, and the Arab Society. The exhibition is dedicated to caricature art. It was overseen by a high-level committee comprised of leading figures in art and cultural organization, including artist Mustafa El-Sheikh, artist Fawzi Morsi, Professor Sherif Gad, artist Emad Gomaa, and Dalida El-Zahar.

It is worth noting that the exhibition represents a significant milestone in Mohamed Sobhi's career, as the participating works draw inspiration from his creative journey, presenting diverse visual perspectives that commemorate his role in enriching the Egyptian cultural scene over many decades.

The exhibition is scheduled to run until July 26th.
