The Arabic Calligraphy Artistic Residency Program

The Arabic Calligraphy Artistic Residency Program

about the program

The Arabic Calligraphy Artistic Residency Program is the first artistic residency launched under the umbrella of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman International Center for Arabic Calligraphy initiative, which aims to develop the artistic capabilities of calligraphers and artists in the art of Arabic calligraphy, by creating an encouraging environment for practical experiences, sharing knowledge, and promoting international cultural exchange locally. Internationally, and instilling a sense of pride in local identity.

The program lasts for eight weeks and brings together ten curated artists from diverse backgrounds and specializations. Local and international curators will have the opportunity to benefit from the space and the various programs within the arts of Arabic calligraphy. Exploration and experimentation across multiple disciplines are encouraged. Artists will also be invited to develop individual and collaborative works during their residency, which will conclude with a week-long open studio event for the public.

A clear artistic program will be developed containing workshops and intensive lessons that will provide participants with a space for dialogue and artistic exchange to enhance Arabic calligraphy as a means of expressing their own artistic works and creative ideas.
